About the Competitive Program

Our goal at 5-6-7-8 Dancenter is to provide the correct technique and a fun, safe, and challenging dance experience while instilling discipline, grace, self-control, self-confidence and respect for all. Dance is a means of expression; an opportunity to push oneself and create. It is a mind and body connection and can be healing, inspiring and gratifying to all that choose to partake.

The 5-6-7-8 Dancenter Competition Teams are developed to create a positive environment where young dancers can grow as performers and teammates, as well as increase their self-esteem, self-discipline, and pride in their accomplishments. Competition team members will improve their dance technique, become more precise and enthusiastic, and learn how to be responsible team members. At 5-6-7-8 Dancenter we value the process, not just the reward at the end, and we encourage our dancers to appreciate all accomplishments, no matter how small. The process will help dancers learn to respect others and themselves and boost their self-confidence.

Audition Information

Competition team members must audition each year.  New team members must be invited to audition by Ms. Sherry, Ms. Kayla or Ms. Bailey at the recommendation of a teacher.

Auditions allow us to see all new and returning dancers dance together so we can evaluate technique levels and ensure that dancers are placed with a group that challenges them at the appropriate level.

On the first day, the dancers will dance combinations. On the second day of auditions, the dancers will be placed in small groups and will be asked to “perform” the combinations.

Placements are based on performance and technical abilities.  We make decisions about levels based on what is best for the dancer, as well as what is best for the team as a whole.  We want dancers to be challenged, but not overwhelmed.

Placement decisions are derived from many years of teaching and dance experience. It is our policy to offer appropriate opportunities to every child. A child will likely be placed in a particular team where he or she will feel confident, in order to promote the development of each dancer. Placement is highly individual and the factors that go into the decision are complex.
